You can just tell that I'm American,

I do realize that for some people this may get a little boring with me going through pretty much any and every detail about everything. We are on our way to the hotel that we are supposed to be staying in tonight. We won’t move into our respective dorms until tomorrow evening. We are basically on a bus ride through the country. It’s so beautiful out here. I’ve been playing musical seats in the back of the bus for most of the ride taking all sorts of pictures of just the country side.

So to start off when I got on the bus Beyonce was playing. I honestly did not think that the first song I would hear in Ireland would be by her. I’m not sure if it’s actually what the bus driver listens to or if he put it on this radio station because he knows we’re all Americans, except for Geoffrey that is. Geoffrey is the guy who met us at the airport and is taking us wherever it is we need to be going. It’s kind of funny to look around the bus and see everyone talking to each other and I’m back here taking pictures. I feel bad for being anti-social right now but I’ll have all the time in the world to get to know everyone later. We are all living within the same general vicinity and the girls are already planning things for us to do as a group. We’ll see how that all works out once we’ve gotten our classes and actually know what our schedules look like.

It’s currently 2° outside, but don’t make the same mistake I did in thinking that it’s freezing out here. They do everything in Celsius while we use Fahrenheit. Yes I’m sure that quite a few of you are getting a kick out of all of this. I mean it took me about 20 minutes of being out on the road to realize that everything is backwards. It really didn’t occur to me when I got on the bus, on the opposite side, that things were backwards. It wasn’t until I realized that all of the sudden the people going the opposite way on the highway were to the right of me. Then I had my small little epiphany about them all driving on the opposite side of the road and the driver seat being where our passenger seat is. I have to say that for the first few hours of actually being in Ireland I’ve had many duh moments. I’m also writing this while keeping my eye out for cool or random things to take pictures of so I realize that this may be all over the place.

I did find the sheep though. They weren’t in the middle of the road like people kept saying they would be. Then again we may not be far enough into the countryside for that just yet. There are also lots of horses just roaming through the grass. There was this really pretty one that is all white with brown spots. Kind of like the mother horse in the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. If you don’t know what movie that is don’t worry about it. It’s all about horses. Well I’m going to go back to my game of musical seats or I might try to sleep a bit if I can. It’s really cold on the bus so I’m not sure how well sleeping is going to work out, but we’ll see.

So sleeping worked out really well. I ended up lying across the back row which is 5 seats long and I was out. I guess that’s what I get for not really sleeping on the plane. Next thing I knew one of the girls was waking me up to say we were at the hotel. I have no clue how long I slept for but we’re in a town now. First thing I did once we got into the hotel was shower. I wasn’t even worried about what else was here. I did do some exploring through the room though. The window has two pretty good views. One is of a few town houses and the other is of a soccer field. The room is basically the most complicated thing ever. You have to flip a switch for EVERYTHING before you can even flip the switch that turns it on. Every plug has a separate switch to turn it on and the lights all have different switches. You just kind of have to play with them to figure out which one goes to which. There’s this little box that you have to put your room key in just to turn on the switches that you have to flip to turn the lights on. It’s so much work to just put something on in here. If you don’t keep your room key in the little box everything shuts off on you. It makes sense and everything but still, it’s a lot to go through just to turn something on. My roommate, Claire, and I made tea in the coolest looking kettle ever. The tea cups are like the ones you would see at a tea party or something, they’re so little and I think it’s the cutest thing ever. For now we’re just in our room until dinner, which is in about an hour, and then we’re all going out into town just to see what there is. We have internet but it isn’t wifi, so we’re sharing an internet cord for now. This is a really long post so I think I’ll end it here and talk about how the town is later.

With Love Always

P.S.- To those who understand, Mickey is here with me and he’ll be hanging out with me around Ireland  :)
P.P.S.- I'm actually only 5 hours ahead of everyone back home.

  1. 1. You are very slow.
    2. Lights switches can in fact be very complicated in foreign countries.
    3. I'm glad Mickey went.
    4. I was confused when you at first said you would be 6 hours ahead.
